Ugly Betty to don the famous fishnets and red lipstick when Chicago reopens at the Garrick

America Ferrera will be joining the cast of the popular musical Chicago from November 7th for a limited eight week run when the show reopens at the Garrick Theatre in London.

Ferrera is probably best known for her role as loveable (but not very fashionable) wannabe writer-turned assistant to magazine editor- Betty Suarez in the hit TV comedy/drama, Ugly Betty. The role won her various acting awards, including an Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award.

The Los Angeles born actress has also stared in films such as Our Family Wedding and the Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants series. Chicago will be her West End debut.

Chicago has a long history of attracting a host of stars from the world of film and television, and Ferrera will following in the footsteps of Brooke Shields, Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams and Ashley Simpson.

The role of Velma Kelly will be played by Amra-Faye Wright, who is currently starring in the Broadway production of the same show. Full casting for the reopening is yet to be announced.

Chicago opened in London in 1997 and has had audiences flocking to see it ever since. The show was due to close after its five year stay at the Cambridge Theatre, however, it was quickly confirmed, short after, that the show would reopen at its new home, the Garrick Theatre.

The show will celebrate its 15th year in London on 18 November.

Chicago tickets for the Garrick are of course available from SeatChoice where cheap London tickets may be more easily found. The Garrick Theatre also sees a limited run of the Sooty show over Christmas this year.
