Good news for ogre fans

Shrek the MusicalShrek The Musical has just announced that it will be extending its booking period to 16 December 2012.

The popular show opened at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane on 14 June 2011. The original cast boasted television and big screen stars such as Nigel Lindsey (Shrek), Nigel Harman (Lord Farquaad), Richard Blackwood (Donkey) and Amanda Holden (Princess Fiona).

Dean Chisnal has recently taken over the role of ‘Shrek’ and Neil McDermott the role of ‘Lord Farquaad’. Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh will remain in the role of ‘Princess Fiona’ until 21 May this year.

The stage production tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who sets off on a life-changing journey to reclaim the deed to his beloved swamp. Along the way he meets all manner of fairy tale characters, and a talking Donkey with razor sharp wit. On his journey he rescues the beautiful- and feisty- Princess Fiona who identifies with Shrek in more ways than he could ever imagine.

Shrek The Musical has book & lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. The show is based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek! and the smash-hit feature film of the same name.

It is directed by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford, designs & costumes by Tim Hatley, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, choreography by Josh Prince and sound by Peter Hylenski. Shrek The Musical is produced by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions.
