Legally Blonde The Musical will be saying goodbye to stars Lee Mead and Simon Thomas in October to make way for new talent – Legally Blonde tickets are still available.
Stephen Ashfield will be stepping into Lee’s shoes playing the role of Emmett, while Ben Freeman will take on the part of Warner Huntington III. Others joining the cast in October at the Savoy Theatre include former Fame and Mamma Mia! star Lucy Miller in the role of Serena.
Ashfield’s stage credits include the role of Nick Piazza in Fame at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London, he also starred as Boy George in the hit show Taboo. Until March this year Ashfield played Bob Gaudio in Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward Theatre, a role he originated. Stephen also starred alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2007 screen adaptation of Sweeney Todd.
Many will recognise Ben Freeman as Scott Windsor from Emmerdale, a character he portrayed for nine years. Freeman has also enjoyed stints on Grange Hill and the Disney Channel. He has entertained theatre audiences playing Norman at the Playhouse Theatre production of Dreamboats and Petticoats.
The show is based on the popular 2001 film Legally Blonde starring Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson and Selma Blair. The West End production of the show opened at the Savoy Theatre on January 13th 2010 and is currently booking until Saturday 31st March 2012 – there is also a touring show. Legally Blonde The Musical has won three Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical.
