Day 4 – Chambery to Pisa
Not such a great day, although the journey was fine! A great night’s sleep was at least a good start. We started with 36% charge which wasn’t bad and only had a few miles to an huge CarreFour hypermarket where we charged again and had a pleasant breakfast – also bought a clock and some safety pins! As the charger was so fast we left with 91% and headed off into the mountains, still raining of course.
Our next stop was planned to be at 41% but we actually arrived with 51% so we must be driving cautiously! This was a mountain rest stop and a good charger, well, once we realised that the first one was broken and despite a warning from another user that they didn’t work. Magnificent views and a good coffee – actually, Robert had too much strong coffee today and got a bit of a buzz on! Charged to 90% and headed off.

The tunnel through to Italy was 54 Euros! In fact most of the trip was toll roads so we Oh well, now in Italy and the rain has stopped and we’re in the mountains heading for the coast.

Our next stop, at an Esso garage, was supposed to be at 25%, low for us, we had real trouble finding the charger and then found that the screen was unreadable due to damage, you could only charge using their app and someone had hit the emergency stop which needed resetting – in trying to do that I pulled the stop off and all the bits fell to the floor! Eeek. Fortunately we had more charge than planned so rerouted and decided to skip the next charge point and head for Pisa!

Good final charge so arrived in Pisa with 80% … excellent. However, couldn’t find the hotel parking so cruise around, then parked illegally and walked to the hotel to find that they had no parking left so Robert tried to move the car to be legal but there was nowhere, absolutely nowhere, to park.

In the end he was directed to a space by a street-wise “local” who offered to look after it and ensure we got no ticket on promise of 10 Euros – this is the paking attendant scam rife in Pisa. Quite spoiled an evening that we were planning to use to go to the sea front and have a meal – so we went to look at the tower instead … that box is now ticked.

Hotel has seen much better days but our room overlooks the Arno …
