Day 11 – Pompeii

A long and very hot day. Took a tour to Pompeii, lunch at a vineyard ion Vesuvius and then Herculaneum. Very long. Very hot, did we mention that? Our AirBnB host very kindly took us down to town to get the tour (and picked us up afterwards) which meant we weren’t moving the car.

Pompeii was spectacular, so special, as there is so much there and not just the “important” buildings you get a real flavour of what life might have been like. Lots of tour parties so it was a bit of a crush sometimes but well worth it.

Lunch was less so, mediocre would be a good description, if a little flattering to what they offered. It was supposed to be a wine tasting too but what transpired was some surely staff splashing wine into our glasses and walking off. These “includes dinner/lunch” tours really result in poor service and meals, they are simply not worth it.

Then on to Herculaneum. Wow. Much smaller but far more complete and truly amazing.

Back to the apartment to eat (tomato, bread, cheese, salami – same as previous nights!) and plan our next step…
